Triathlon ReTul Bike Fitting

What are the benefits of a proper bike fit?

A proper bike fit is essential for injury prevention and maximized efficiency. An optimal position on the bike will allow for greater comfort and enjoyment while riding. All bodies are different and your position on the bike should reflect your biomechanics.

Why get fit with Retul 3D motion capture technology?

The best way to analyze a rider’s efficiency is to observe and measure the rider while he or she is pedaling the bike. Retul 3D motion capture technology simultaneously measures three planes of movement on the rider as he or she is in motion. Retul averages the rider’s pedal strokes to provide a comprehensive data set reflecting the rider’s movements. Only at this point can a bike fit expert properly evaluate changes to a rider’s position. Attempts to analyze the rider in a static position, or only in two dimensions, will not provide data at the same level of accuracy as 3D motion capture.

Who can benefit from a bike fit?

Generally, if you are serious enough to clip into a bike, you will benefit from a bike fit. Whether you are a professional or recreational rider, getting the proper bike fit is an effective yet economical way to improve performance.

How long does a Retul fit take?

An average fit with Retul lasts 90 minutes. However, if you have major adjustments or component changes, the fit may be longer.

How is fit data shared with the rider?

The Retul software archives data for every rider and his or her bike/bikes. The client receives a report of the final fit data, which inlcudes body measurments and angles, as well as bike set-up and measurements.

Triathlon Swim Stroke Analysis

Tru Tri Sports is different from other swimming facilities because we have the use of the Endless Pool and Dartfish Video Analysis software. These pools create the optimal environment for Swim Stroke Analysis. Their small size ensures a private, distraction free environment, and the water is always kept between 78-80 degrees Fahrenheit, to maintain maximum comfort for our. The “treadmill affect” also means that your coach will be able to move freely around you as you swim, capturing video of your stroke from every angle above and below the water.

One of the problems with traditional Swim Lessons & Coaching is that there is really no good way to show students how they swim. Coaches have always had to try to “show and tell” their students verbally what happened as they attempted different techniques. This is not always the best way to see real results.

Tru Tri Sports has found a solution to this problem. The Endless pool comes equipped with at least two full length mirrors installed along the bottom of the pool, and has 3 separate water proof cameras attached to a computer with movement analysis software and large video monitors. This allows us to show our athletes exactly what they are doing as they swim, and how they can improve.

The mirrors in our pools are mounted directly in front of and beneath the main swimming area of the pool. This allows our athletes to watch what they are doing, as they are doing it, and gives them the ability to make instantaneous corrections to their stroke, as they are swimming.

Dartfish Video Analysis is the other half of our Visual feedback System. Our system uses a total of 3 cameras, one mounted over the swimming area, one mounted in front of the swimming area, & a mobile camera. This allows us to capture multiple views of each swimmer in action, both above and below the water. We display video taken from each of these cameras on High Definition Television sets strategically placed in our swim area.

By providing constant visual feedback to our clients, we are able to accelerate and improve our clients learning process, as they are better able to understand exactly how to perform and correct their swimming technique.

Swim Stroke Analysis Fees:

$40 monthly membership with 2 month commitment, reserve pool online

Triathlon Run Gait Analysis

Gait is the way in which we move our whole body from one point to another. As runners or triathletes this means that we are usually running from point “A” to point “B”. Run Gait analysis is a method used to assess the way we run to highlight bio-mechanical abnormalities.

What are bio-mechanical abnormalities?

Abnormalities are inefficiencies in our run cycle, typically it is associated with injury. Being able to move more effectively is important in avoiding these injuries. Having joints capable of producing sufficient force is important to generate an effective gait cycle. If joints are stiff, this is usually caused by muscle tightness, the end result will be limited range of motion or weak muscles. In turn, your body has to find ways to compensate for those problems, this leads to bio-mechanical abnormalities.

Example of abnormalities:

  • Overpronation
  • Supination
  • Increased Q angle
  • Hip hiking – lifting the hip on one side
  • Ankle equinus – limited ankle dorsiflexion
  • Pelvic tilt – anterior, posterior or lateral

What is run gait analysis?

Tru Tri Sports has state of the art equipment with first class running specialists and trained professionals in gait analysis that will evaluate each subject while performing a run gait analysis protocol. The subject will be video recorded while running on a treadmill using cameras and Dartfish software. We will be watching the way you move, looking in particular at your feet, ankles, knees, and hips. Once you are recorded, this information will be relayed to a laptop where slow motion and freeze frames can be used to carefully assess your running style.

Many injuries are often caused by poor mechanics. Runners and athletes that have had gait analysis can correct their poor mechanics with proper footwear and avoid overuse injuries. The following are a list of common overuse injuries associated with poor mechanics:

  • Shin splints
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Illiotibial band syndrome (ITB/runners knee)
  • Patella tendonitis
  • Patello-femoral knee pain
  • Achilles tendonits
  • Low back pain

Corrections of your Gait cycle

If it is found that you have an abnormality in your gait cycle, we will begin with taking a look at your footwear, the use of orthotics or an exercise program will be developed. You will receive handouts from your session with freeze frames and notes that are printed directly from Dartfish, or we can e-mail, Facebook, Twitter or post your entire session on Dartfish.tv
